Anneliese Schran

Category : General

Just wanted everyone to know that our mother, Anneliese Schran, passed away yesterday afternoon on beautiful Vashon Island in Puget Sound, just a short ferry ride from Seattle. We were both with her, and it was a peaceful passing.

We’d like to thank the entire Estling Lake community for all the years of friendship and kindness shown to her (and us) during our many years at the lake, first as renters in 1963 onward until the purchase of Camp 44 in 1973. We have nothing but happy memories from those years, and we know that our mother especially loved the lake.

Funeral services will be private, taking place this coming spring in beautiful Fairview Cemetery in our old “home town” of Westfield, NJ.

We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Much love from Brigitte and Renate Schran /Johnson /Brown and the rest of the Schran family

Lake Lowering 2016

Category : General

The lowering of the lake began on Friday and here are a few pictures showing the progress.  The last two pictures show some algae that was left behind on the shoreline.

Thank You Estling Lake!

On behalf of my entire family, I would like to thank you all for the outpouring of love and support we have received due to the passing of my grandmother, Nancy Saulter. Whether it was a text, email, card, visit, or you just thought of us during this difficult time, we really appreciate it more than words can say. Even during this difficult time, Nancy continues to teach us lessons on cherishing the people who are close to us and valuing the moments we share rather than the items we own. Again, from the bottom of our hearts thank you for the love and support!

Thank You Madame Secretary

Category : General

Ruth,

We had hoped to have you at an Estling gathering to give you a proper send-off as you leave the job as secretary. If it worked out, I would have said something like this:

“The job of secretary of the Estling Lake Corp. has had some very long-serving incumbents. The first, Gene C., and the second, Carl L., both served for a long time. I don’t know that anybody knows why but it’s true. Now we can add the name of Ruth M. to that list.

“Ruth retired this year after serving 10 years as our secretary. That’s a lot of years, and a lot of meetings. And it’s harder than you might think. Think about how people talk at meetings: it’s not all in sentences and paragraphs. People use parts of sentences, there are interruptions, the conversation can go wildly off track or repeat again and again. Some things people say make no sense whatever. The secretary must not only record what is happening, but also be trying to figure out a way to make sense of it. For 10 years Ruth did just that, making the board of directors seem much better in minutes than we may have been in person.

“The other part of the job, of course, is keeping track of sales and rentals with all the forms and documents and contact with the town. Ruth also excelled at this, becoming a familiar face in the Denville town offices.

“For all your work over these years, the board and the stockholders thank you very much. Thank you Ruth.”

This would have been followed by sustained applause.

After that Bob and I would have presented you with a couple of gifts (left inside your door this morning). The book is considered a classic in the field of advanced goat cheese making. If you have already passed that stage, we hope you can enjoy it as reminder of your journey. We imagine you eating the cheese on your deck at the lake, or your living room in Hoboken, or on the veranda in Jamaica. We thought you might enjoy a little something to go with it.

Thanks from all of us.
Dave

Committee Sign Up Reminder

Category : General

It is time to consider signing up for one of the many Estling Lake Committees.  As Dave R. said at Song Service last Sunday, we are a DIY community.  Or as our application for owner membership states “the obligation to serve is no less real than the obligation to meet [corporation] expenses”.  Sign-up sheets will be available both at the pancake breakfast Saturday and at Song Service Sunday at 8 pm — not 7:30 as per the calendar.

You can also sign-up on our website, just use the link below.

Town Hall Meeting now July 23

Category : General

Hi,

Because of a conflict with a table tennis match, we have changed the date of the Town Hall meeting.

The Town Hall meeting will be on Saturday, July 23, at 10AM.

I encourage all campers to attend as we will be discussing important issues, including lake maintenance plans and our policy with respect to wells.

Dave

Boat Regatta moved to Sunday

Category : General

All Campers

You’ve waited 70 years so we hope one extra day won’t hurt.
Due to an inclement weather forecast for tomorrow.
The Estling Lake 70th Anniversary Boat Regatta is moved to Sunday (10th July) at 2pm.
Hopefully this works well for everyone, as it will be soon after Water Events wraps up.
To avoid complications on an already busy day we are removing the “picnic on the beach” element.
As a reminder the goal is to get 70 boats out on the lake … and Yes kayaks DO count !
See you all out on the lake.
